A new year is here, let's SHELL-EBRATE!
One of my favourite crochet stitches is the Shell Stitch.
It looks complicated, but it's very beginner friendly. It gives any project so much texture and can be easily memorized. (perfect for binge watching + crochet)

HOW TO CROCHET THE SHELL STITCH:
Below are also written instructions on how to complete this stitch:
Chain a multiple of 6 + 2.
Row 1: Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work 1 SC. *Skip 2 chains, 5 DC into the next. Skip 2 chains, 1 SC into the next. Repeat from * until the end of the row, ending with 1 SC in the final chain. Turn.
Row 2: Chain 2 (represents 1st dc), 2 DC in the first stitch. *Skip 2, 1 SC in the next. Skip 2, 5 DC in next. Repeat from * until the end of the row, ending with 3 DC in the final stitch. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1. Work 1 SC in the first stitch. *Skip 2, 5 DC, skip 2, 1 SC into the next. Repeat from * until end of row, ending with 1 SC in the final stitch. Turn.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3.
YARN: WONDERFLUFF OMBRE
This yarn...I have to brag about this yarn...it's definitely one of the softest I've ever crocheted with. It's a bulky weight but super lightweight and warm.
There are delicate fleecy merino fibers that give the softest texture. And the ombre ....with patience, get ready for an extra long colour change...it's so worth it.
Now for the pattern.
I've wanted to make an extra long scarf. And with this ombre effect, it was the perfect choice. I used 2 cakes to complete this lengthy scarf, perfect for keeping your cozy and warm all season long.
Notes before you begin:
*Chain 2 at the beginning of Row 2 represents 1 double crochet
*When adding the 2nd cake, fasten off and join new cake at the beginning chain. (the ombre of the cake will line up this way, going from light to dark)

Yarn: Wonderfluff Ombre in Hare Heather Ombre from WeCrochet (2 cakes)
Hook: 6mm Furls Crochet Ergonomic Wooden Hook
Scissors
Finished length: 82"
Finished width: 9"
Chain 54 + 2
Row 1: Starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, work 1 SC. *Skip 2 chains, 5 DC into the next. Skip 2 chains, 1 SC into the next. Repeat from * until the end of the row, ending with 1 SC in the final chain. Turn.
Row 2: Chain 2 (represents 1st dc), 2 DC in the first stitch. *Skip 2, 1 SC in the next. Skip 2, 5 DC in next. Repeat from * until the end of the row, ending with 3 DC in the final stitch. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1. Work 1 SC in the first stitch. *Skip 2, 5 DC, skip 2, 1 SC into the next. Repeat from * until end of row, ending with 1 SC in the final stitch. Turn.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3.
*I used one entire cake for the first half, it went light to dark, fasten off.
*I used another entire cake for the second half.
*When joining the 2nd cake, pull from the middle of the cake with the light colour and join yarn at the beginning chain so the ombre will begin from light to dark. (see photo below)
Fasten off.
Weave in all ends.
ADDING FRINGE
Cut 28 x 20" pieces.
Each side of the scarf will have 14 pieces attached to create the fringe.
Feel free to add more or less pieces to your liking, or none at all.
